While spending time in the Akashic Forest, Dr. Henriksen noticed a specific mycelial pattern spreading across a decaying piece of wood. This pattern was noted before but in a separate location. Initially, this likeness reminded them of a neural network. Further expanding on this concept and further study led to the realization that this pattern also resembled a network of waterways. This revelation posed the question, how connected are we to mycelium? On a physical and spiritual level, it would seem that mycelium and fungal networks have the same capabilities of cognition and connect both our bodies and minds to the world around us. Upon retrieving a sample and studying the growth and its movement, it was discovered that the mycelium itself was able to cognitively make decisions and learn, as well as problem solve to circumvent obstacles and create the most efficient pathways to generate expedient decomposition of the wood.
